The Pennsylvania Independent Waste Haulers Association (P.I.W.H.A.) has been representing the interests of privately owned waste disposal companies in Pennyslvania for more than fifteen (15) years. Its history dates back to a group of small haulers that realized the need to unite in order to stand up to the pressures from much larger nationally run collection companies and the laws being passed contrary to the interests of the small hauler and the communities they served.
The Association has successfully negotiated with disposal facilities, arranged for discount programs with numorous vendors, such as insurance companies, paint suppliers, fuel, hardware and tire companies, using the purchasing power of the collective membership.
Our organization acts as a voice to local government and lawmakers on behalf of the independent refuse collection industry in Pennsylavania. The P.I.W.H.A. considers itself helpful as opposed to adversarial, promoting understanding of the problems caused by counter productive or unintended interpretations of certain regulations or laws.
Since its inception, the P.I.W.H.A. has also mounted numerous legal challenges to licensing fees and municipal regulations that had been promoted without legal authority. In each and every case settled to date, the Associtation has been successful in stopping, and reversing many illegal regulations. As well as recovering illegally collected fees and fines in addition to reimbusemed legal expenses.
